Throughout his career, Michael Carlebach’67 has captured the often humorous and eccentric moments of everyday life, like the above snap, taken in Earlville, N.Y. This year, 14 photos from the retired photojournalist, professor, and historian’s collection Some of Us (Safe Harbor Books, 2017) were purchased by the Library of Congress. Carlebach acknowledges his journey has been unorthodox — and he’s got the photos to prove it. “[I’ve had] kind of an odd career for a French major from upstate New York, but Colgate prepared me well for pretty much everything,” he says.
