Campus Hot Spots
Enjoyed the sidebar (“’Gate Slang,” spring 2026, p. 19). Chob is all well and good, but we spent a lot of time at the previous Case Library snack spot, a room full of vending machines that was located in the belly of the building and went by the name Smoke & Coke. I guess we were allowed to smoke in there? And if you stopped in hoping to catch a glimpse of your crush, it was called by its other name, the Scope & Hope.

Another Colgate Character
The article surveying novels that feature Colgate (“An Enchanted Haven: Colgate in Contemporary Fiction,” spring 2026, p. 8) has added some interesting titles to my reading list. I wanted to point out an omission: Joyce Carol Oates’ 2020 novel, Night. Death. Sleep. The Stars. follows an upstate New York family in the aftermath of a tragedy. The eldest son, Thom, is a Colgate graduate with a degree in business administration and fond memories of Greek life. Oates also included a Colgate student as a character in her short story collection Night, Neon.

What readers are saying on social media
In response to “A Decade on the Hill” (spring 2026, p. 30) where President Brian W. Casey reflects on his first 10 years at Colgate:
What an amazing decade it’s been! Ah, to be a Colgate student again.

Comments on “To Whom Much Is Given, Much Is Expected” (fall 2025/winter 2026, p. 40):
What a wonderful read. So glad to know your story, Solomon (as a fellow alum and daughter of greater Buffalo, I’m glad that Buffalo IS where you landed, and can’t wait to check out your parents’ restaurant on my next visit home!).

So wonderful to see the skinny kid from class become this amazing young man!
