The Colgate in Focus admission diversity open house drew 68 talented high school seniors, many from low-income, first-generation, or other traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. Alumnus Javier Calvo Mendoza ’12 delivered the keynote.
Artist-in-residence Barnaby Evans will "work alongside us as we re-invest in our opening and commencement rituals in ways that honor and understand our past while looking forward to the future," said President Casey.
Last semester, a group of students in Colgate’s Africana and Latin American Studies Program studied at the University of the West Indies at Mona, in Kingston, Jamaica, led by English professor Kezia Page.
Colgate’s first Mosaic Weekend March 24–25 brought together students and alumni of color for a networking reception, alumni career panels, and a reception with ABC News anchor and correspondent T.J. Holmes, who gave the keynote address, which was co-sponsored by Brothers, the Mosaic initiative, the Office of the President, and the Maroon-News.
From the Colgate Scene: Colgate professors on a faculty development trip brought home a 7-foot–tall scroll depicting the 2004 tsunami. Now on display in Case Library, the scroll can "pull people together in shared wonderment, curiosity, and inspiration.”
Laura H. Jack, vice president of development and alumni relations at Howard University, will join Colgate University as vice president for communications, effective February 6, 2017.
