Traveling around the world as a Thomas J. Watson fellow, Adam Hermans ’07 has been able to combine his passionate interest in animals with his love for film.
And now, Hermans is back home talking about the yearlong adventure.
His hometown newspaper, the Exeter News-Letter (Exeter, N.H.), recently chronicled Hermans’ fellowship journey through 15 countries including Japan, South Africa, and Madagascar.
During his year of exploration, Hermans studied primates as well as the humans that surround them, and he plans to create two films out of the more than 100 hours of footage he gathered.
“I felt like the primates were my impetus and they pulled me along to great places,” he told the paper.
Hermans went on to sum up his fellowship experience: “It’s not aimless wandering and it’s not doing what everybody does, but it’s having your own experience.”
This week, several central New York newspapers published stories about Colgate alumnus and NBA player Adonal Foyle’s visit to campus next week.
Foyle, who also founded Democracy Matters, will speak about the U.S. presidential election and the youth vote during two public events Tuesday, September 16:

With an active presence on over 50 college campuses nationwide, Democracy Matters involves hundreds of students and faculty in focusing on issues of campaign finance reform.
A native of a small Caribbean island, Foyle moved to the U.S. when he was 15 and became a U.S. citizen last year. In November, he’ll vote for the first time in a U.S. presidential election.
