Hamilton, NY — The Colgate University men’s soccer team kicks the season off Saturday when they travel to Lexington, Virginia to challenge the Keydets of the Virginia Military Institute for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

The Raiders will start upperclassmen at all 11 positions for the first time in three years.

‘It isn’t because we don’t have the talented freshmen, but for the first time we have a great group of guys back from the previous season,’ said head coach Mike Doherty.

Colgate lost only two starters from last year and returns all of its defensive starters, which will be key for its success.

‘Midway through last season we started defending and we played well, and so far this preseason our guys have defended well and that is a big key,’ remarked Doherty.

Saturday’s meeting will be the first ever between the two schools.
