This Torch Medal is given in honor of Yoichi Aizawa, Professor of Japanese, by Eri Sato ’12.

Torch Medals honor a Colgate faculty or staff member who made a meaningful impact on an alum during their time at Colgate. Alumni in the reunion classes of 2007 and 2012 are invited to give a Torch Medal, delivered virtually, to a present or past member of the faculty or staff. See more Torch Medals, and give yours here.

“I took Professor Aizawa’s Core Japan class my junior year at Colgate. Taking this class with Aizawa sensei was particularly special because my father (Koji Sato ’82) was also his student. Aizawa sensei’s humor and passion in teaching made me more interested in learning about my heritage. My torch medal is in honor of him.”
