Sustainability interns launch video contest to help promote Recyclemania

Back to All Stories

As part of the campuswide commitment to reduce and eventually eliminate landfill waste and to encourage recycling, Colgate will again take part in the intercollegiate competition Recyclemania.

This competition encourages colleges and universities from across the United States and Canada to increase the amount of materials they recycle and decrease the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.

Student interns who work in the sustainability office, called Eco-Reps, recently held a kick-off event at the O’Connor Campus Center that was attended by more than 80 students who signed recycling pledges and made a commitment to live more sustainably.

The sustainability office is sponsoring a Recyclemania video contest that includes a $50 gift certificate to Hamilton Whole Foods as the grand prize. Students are encouraged to create a one- to three-minute video that highlights the theme of “Recycling at Colgate.”

Videos should be uploaded to YouTube and the link e-mailed to GreenRaiders@Colgate.edu. In addition to the gift certificate, the video will be displayed on the university website homepage. Entries are due by midnight March 16. Questions should be directed to sdickinson@colgate.edu or jptaylor@colgate.edu.
