Slater Brothers Entertainment will again bring Hollywood to Hamilton with its second annual Hamilton Film Festival, Aug. 5-8. This year, local talent will be showcased in a special screening of short films made in central New York.

The local short competition is open to anyone who is a resident or student in Madison, Herkimer, Chenango, Oneida, Oswego or Onondaga counties. The first submission cutoff is June 1; an extension to July 1 may be granted under certain circumstances.

Grant Slater ’91 and his brothers Wade and Todd, whose father, Terry Slater, was the head hockey coach at Colgate for 15 years, founded Slater Brothers Entertainment and the festival.

“Part of what we hope to accomplish with our film festival is to promote the arts and culture of the area we grew up in,” said Todd Slater. “Regardless of subject matter or budget, we want to encourage budding filmmakers of central New York to get involved with our festival. It’s incredible what you can now create with a digital camera and a computer.”

The venue for festival screenings is the Hamilton Theater, which is located at 7 Lebanon St.  Charitable components associated with the festival will benefit the community food cupboard and Hamilton Central Schools.
