Colgate coffeehouse, library score big with SI writer

The Barge, the Colgate-owned coffeehouse in downtown Hamilton, and the recently renovated Case Library and Geyer Center for Information Technology scored some major props this morning on SI.com, the online home of Sports Illustrated.

Peter King, a senior writer for Sports Illustrated, called The Barge the “best coffeehouse in the eastern states.” His daughter Mary Beth ’08 attends Colgate and works at The Barge, and he said she made him a killer triple latte at “Hamilton’s absolutely perfect coffee shop.”

The Barge celebrated its 10th anniversary last year. It serves as home to caffeine-starved students looking for an alternative study space, community members looking for a place to congregate, and anyone looking to see live musical performances.

King, in his highly popular “Monday Morning Quarterback” column, also says this about Case-Geyer: “If I had another life to lead, I’d want four years of it to be at Colgate. Perfect campus. The new library is the kind of place that magnetizes you, with comfort, space, quiet and some of the prettiest fall vistas you’ll ever see, particularly during the foliage period.”

Touchdown, Colgate!
