Men’s Track and Field Turns in Solid Individual Performances at the FasTrack Invitational

BOSTON, MASS. ‘ The Colgate men’s track and field team competed at the FasTrack Invitational hosted by Boston University on Valentine’s Day.  The Raiders had several strong performances in the meet.

 

Freshman Geoff Bean (Oneonta, N.Y.) moved into third in the Patriot League in the 400 meters with a time of 49.85 seconds.  Don Boyajian (Clifton Park, N.Y.) turned in a time of 50.72 seconds to move into seventh in the conference and Mitch Sargent (Peachtree City, Ga.) finished the same event in 51.53 seconds.

 

Dan Ellis (Pine Valley, N.Y.) moved into 12th in the league in the 200 meters after running under 23 seconds for the first time with a mark of 22.88.  Senior Ian Hill (West Hartford, Conn.) moved into 10th in the Patriot League in the mile with a time of 4:18.4.  Nate Rosenthal (West Hartford, Conn.) ran the mile in 4:26.77 and senior Travis Brooks (River Forest, Ill.) rounded out the field for Colgate with a time of 4:29.85.

 

Andrew Moore (Atlanta, Ga.) was the Raiders top-finisher in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.76 seconds.  Dan Ellis (Pine Valley, N.Y.) finished in 6.84 seconds, while teammates Corey Stirpe (Halifax, Pa.) and Aaron Brooks (New Hope, Pa.) finished in 6.84 and 6.98 seconds respectively.  Moore also competed in the long jump leaping 6.43 meters (21’01.25′).

 

Mike Saunders (Albion, N.Y.) led a field of four Raider competitors in the 800 meters.  He finished in 1:56.28 and Kyle Barrett (Troy, N.Y.) crossed the line in 1:56.73.  Greg Smith (LaGrange, Ill.) posted a mark of 1:58.27 and John Gillespie (N.Andover, Mass.) turned in a time of 1:58.93.

 

Luke Merkel (Arlington, Va.) was Colgate’s lone competitor in the 1,000 meter run finishing in 2:34.71.  Mike Hanlon (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Scott DeRoo (Elizabethtown, Pa.) competed in the 3,000 meters finishing in 8:47.50 and 9:08.09 respectively.

 

Charley Yalovitser threw 13.24 meters (43’05.25′) in the shot put and Lucas Meeker (Healsburg, Calif.) posted a mark of 13.00 meters (42’08.00′).  Stephen Salavantis (Shavertown, Pa.) rounded out the field with a mark of 12.23 meters (40’01.50′). 

 

The Raiders next meet is the Patriot League Championship next weekend at Bucknell University.  The action is set to start Friday at

 

 

Track and Field Notes: To pinpoint another notable performance, the freshmen 4×400 relay team of Sargent, Moore, Boyajian, and Bean broke the school’s freshman record in the event set in 1965 with a time of 3:24.38 earlier this season.
