Men’s Basketball Defeated By Holy Cross 60-49

WORCESTER, MA ‘ John Hurley scored 16 points, 11 in the second half, to lead Holy Cross to a 60-49 Patriot League win over Colgate Wednesday night at the Hart Center.

 

The Crusaders (10-12 overall, 4-5 in the Patriot League) split their home-and-home series with Colgate, moving into sole possession of fifth place in the standings.  Colgate (11-11, PL 3-6) drops its sixth straight road game.

 

Kendall Chones, who equaled his season-best with 19 points, followed by Mark Linebaugh with 13 points, led Colgate.  Linebaugh moves into 10th place in career scoring with 1,297 points.

 

Andrew Zidar added seven points (all in the first half) and eight rebounds, while Jon Simon tallied five.

 

Colgate had an early seven-point advantage, 14-7, over the Crusaders, before Holy Cross put together a 12-1 run for a 19-15 lead with 6:07 remaining in the half.  The Raiders came right back with nine straight points to go ahead by five points, 24-19, only to see the Crusaders respond with seven straight to retake the lead.

 

The score was tied at halftime, 28-28.

 

With the score tied 36-36 in the second halftime, Holy Cross took control of the game with a 20-8 run opening a 12-point advantage with 5:17 left.  Colgate never got any closer than the final 11-point deficit.

 

After Linebaugh scored to tie the game at 36-36, the Raiders managed only nine points (all by Kendall Chones) over the next 13 minutes.

 

GAME NOTES:  Colgate’s hasn’t won a Patriot League game on the road this season ‘ the 49 points equals a season-low for the Raiders ‘ Alvin Reed fouled out of the game with 3:03 left and with only two points ‘ Howard Blue missed his sixth straight game for the Raiders, and Colgate was without the services of Dan Gentile, who was injured in practice on Monday.
