Harvard Defeats Men’s Hockey, 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. The Harvard men’s hockey team scored a goal in each period as the Crimson defeated Colgate 3-1 Saturday night at the Bright Hockey Center.

Harvard (8-9-2, 6-7-1 ECAC) got on the board at 2:48 of the first period on a rebound goal by Rob Flynn.

The Raiders (9-8-3, 4-4 ECAC) knotted the game at one at 9:53 when sophomore Jon Smyth (Markham, Ont.) one-timed it from just inside the blue line. It was Smyth’s team-leading 12th goal of the season.

Harvard took a 2-1 lead at 9:04 of the second period as Dennis Packard wristed a shot top shelf on Colgate goaltender Steve Silverthorn (Owen Sound, Ont.).

The Crimson’s Rob Fried added an insurance goal at 18:53 of the third period for a 3-1 Harvard lead.

Silverthorn finished with 29 saves while Harvard’s John Daigneau stopped 16 shots.

Colgate returns home to host Rensselaer and Union next weekend. Both games start at 7 p.m. at Starr Rink.
