Colgate Volleyball Falls Short in Final Two Matches at the Big Orange Tournament

Despite grabbing their first game victory of the season, Colgate fell to Siena in their second match at the Big Orange Tournament.  Solid performances by several Raiders stretched the match to four games.  Game scores were 20-30, 27-30, 29-31, and 21-30.

 

Junior Laurel Oliver (Watertown, N.Y.) racked up a career high 15 kills in 35 attempts, and sophomore Caity Whiteaker (Venice, Fla.) posted ten kills in 42 attempts.  Whiteaker posted three service aces in the match, as did sophomore setter Allie Nichols (Sacramento, Calif.).  Nichols (Sacramento, Calif.) was credited with a double-double tallying 27 assists and ten digs.  Freshman Marybeth Maziarz (Wilbraham, Mass.) came through with three total blocks, five kills and two service aces in the Raiders effort.  Junior co-captain Natalie Rawson (Palmdale, Calif.) had a team high 13 digs.

 

Liz Hubbard paced Siena knocking down 21 kills in 32 attempts for a .625 hitting percentage.  Lauren Weber provided a match high 14 digs for the Saints.

 

In the nightcap, the Raiders lost to Syracuse in three games.  Those scores were 14-30, 20-30, 28-30.  Whiteaker put down 12 kills and was named to the Big Orange All-Tournament team for her efforts.  Rawson dug a team high eight balls for the Colgate.

 

Kristen Conway and Jessica Logan led the way for the Orangewomen.  They posted 12 and 11 kills respectively.  Katie Allen threw down six total blocks and Christen Casey put 13 digs in the books for Syracuse.

 

The Raiders are back in action Tuesday as they face Binghamton for the second time this season.  The first serve is at on Colgate’s own
