Colgate Earns First Ever Victory Over Cornell in 3-0 Win

HAMILTON, N.Y.The Colgate women’s hockey team accomplished something on Saturday that it has never done, beat Cornell.  A 22 save shut-out by Rebecca Lahar and a game-winning goal by Carly McNaughton in the second period allowed the Raiders to earn their 12th win of the season.

McNaughton scored her fourth goal of the season at 16:24 from Cheryl Setchell to give Colgate a 1-0 advantage in the second period.

Colgate added two insurance goals in the third period in empty net fashion.  Caitlin Hornyak scored at 19:19 of the third, followed closely by Kara Bachman who scored with just nine seconds left in the game.  Allison Paiano assisted on Bachman’s goal.

 Cornell outshot Colgate 22-19 and went 0-1 on the power play, while the Raiders also went 0-1 on the power play.

 Rebecca Lahar made 22 saves in recording her fourth shut-out of the season and third in ECAC play.  She now has seven career shut-outs. 

Colgate now 12-17-1 and 4-9-1 in the ECAC, moved back into sixth place with nine points, one point ahead of Yale.

Colgate wraps up the regular season next weekend when Brown and Harvard come to town.  Colgate and Brown play Friday night at 7 p.m.
