ORONO, METhe Colgate women’s hockey team fell to the Black Bears of Maine on Monday evening 5-0 at Alfond Arena.

Maine was led by leading scorer Karen Droog, who registered a hat-trick and an assist for the victorious Black Bears.

Droog scored at 18:45 of the first period from Nicole Munro who finished the game with a goal and two assists.

Munro netted her third of the season at 13:21 of the second period to give Maine a 2-0 lead.  Droog and Vicky Johnstone picked up the assists on the goal.

Droog netted goal number two of the game at 6:30 of the final frame off a pass from Munro.  Droog’s seventh goal of the season at 8:10 increased Maine’s lead to 4-0.  Naomi Smethurst recorded her first assist on the goal.  The Black Bears set the final at 5-0 when Raffi Wolf scored at 15:15 of the third from Laura Maddin.

Maine outshot Colgate 30-21 and was successful on one of four power plays.  Colgate was 0-4 on the power play.

Rebecca Lahar made 25 stops between the pipes for Colgate.

Maine has never lost to or tied Colgate in four tries, with the last two games being 5-0 decisions.

The two teams are back in action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Alfond Arena.
