Hamilton, NY — The Colgate women’s hockey team fell Saturday afternoon to the Lady Lakers of Mercyhurst, 3-1.

Mercyhurst got things started in the first period with the only goal of the frame coming at 18:41.  Samantha Shirley found Jennifer Jeffrey in front of the net for her fifth goal of the season, giving the Lady Lakers a 1-0 lead.

Colgate’s netminder, Rebecca Lahar played well in the first period, turning aside 17 of the 18 shots she faced.

Mercyhurst continued its onslaught on the net in the second period, firing 30 shots at goaltender Rebecca Lahar.  Lahar was up to the task saving 29 of the 30 attempts.  The Lady Lakers scored their second goal at 11:01 of the second period when Aimee Collins found the net.  Lindsay Dellow and Jessica Dillabough were credited with the assists.

The Raiders fought back in the third period scoring a power play goal at 11:50.  Cheryl Setchell netted her eighth goal of the season from Maura Kehoe, cutting the Mercyhurst lead to one.

The Lady Lakers tacked on an insurance goal at 16:37 and held off a late charge by Colgate to down the Raiders, 3-1.  Samantha Shirley scored the third goal from Danielle Lansing.

Mercyhurst outshot Colgate 64-13, but Rebecca Lahar held the Lady Lakers to just three goals, en route to a 61 save performance.

Colgate went 1-4 on the power play, while Mercyhurst finished 0-3.

Colgate now 9-10 plays Mercyhurst again Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Starr Rink.
