The online programming provided more than 1,600 alumni with information, connection, and entertainment to replace in-person events.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the more popular webinars: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>As scientists were working tirelessly to understand the coronavirus, Associate Professor of Biology Geoff Holm provided a deep dive on COVID-19 in May. \u201cThe pandemic has laid bare the process of \u2018scientific sausage making,\u2019\u201d he said. <br>\u201cThe actual process of science is, by necessity, slow. It takes time for the dust to settle and for consensus to coalesce around theories that stand up to repeat testing.\u201d Holm serves as cochair of the Task Force on the Reopening of the Colgate Campus.<\/li><li>Mark Murphy \u201977, president and CEO of the Green Bay Packers, offered his take on the impact of the pandemic on the NFL. \u201cWhat makes the NFL so popular is that we have competitive balance because of revenue sharing, so even a team from little Green Bay can compete,\u201d he said. \u201cHowever this all shakes out, we\u2019re going to make sure that it\u2019s competitively equitable for all teams.\u201d\u00a0<\/li><li>History buffs enjoyed \u201cExploring Colgate\u2019s Diverse History\u201d with Diane Ciccone \u201974 and Jim Smith \u201970. Ciccone said, \u201cJim\u2019s book <em>Becoming Colgate<\/em> gives us a modern view of Colgate\u2019s 200-year history. I wanted to focus my book <em>Into the Light <\/em>on the Black experience at Colgate. It turned out that while doing the research, we found that Colgate had a history of diversity from the very beginning.\u201d Near the end of their back-and-forth, Smith stated, \u201cI think what we\u2019ve both found in this story is that there\u2019s a great deal we can be proud of, but we have to temper that pride with the pain that is also clear in some of these stories, and anger that things didn\u2019t proceed as people of goodwill might have hoped they would have proceeded. What our efforts have done is to write a more inclusive story.\u201d\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe response has been great,\u201d says Jillian Cole \u201910, senior associate director of alumni relations. \u201cAlumni have really enjoyed the opportunities to learn from faculty and alumni, and they are able to watch the recordings if they aren\u2019t able to attend live.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Virtual events will continue throughout the year.
