{"id":15270,"date":"2024-08-07T08:02:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-07T12:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.colgate.edu\/magazine\/?p=15270"},"modified":"2024-08-05T11:24:48","modified_gmt":"2024-08-05T15:24:48","slug":"his-art-lives-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.colgate.edu\/magazine\/2024\/08\/07\/his-art-lives-on\/","title":{"rendered":"His Art Lives On"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The late Larry Field Tack, Class of 1921, made his living in the printing business, but his true passion was art.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"710\" height=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/news.colgate.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2024\/07\/Track-Painting.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.colgate.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2024\/07\/Track-Painting.jpg 710w, https:\/\/news.colgate.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2024\/07\/Track-Painting-222x300.jpg 222w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 710px) 100vw, 710px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe was always doodling,\u201d says Elaine Tack, his granddaughter. \u201cHe would carry a camera around his neck in a brown leather case and take photos of things he would later paint.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A trustee emeritus, Tack founded Canfield &amp; Tack printing company in Rochester, N.Y., in 1926 and painted as a hobby. After his death in 1981, his family discovered a trove of his textured, scenic oil paintings in his basement studio; his work had never been exhibited or sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That changed in July, when 18 of Tack\u2019s paintings, donated by Elaine, were part of a month-long exhibition at the Thousand Islands Arts Center in Clayton, N.Y.
