{"id":11653,"date":"2023-02-13T07:58:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-13T12:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.colgate.edu\/magazine\/?p=11653"},"modified":"2023-02-14T13:40:27","modified_gmt":"2023-02-14T18:40:27","slug":"colgate-hello-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.colgate.edu\/magazine\/2023\/02\/13\/colgate-hello-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Colgate Hello"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2019Gate fate. <\/strong><br><strong>Susan Kornfeld \u201974 Kennedy<\/strong> met three alumni in the spring and fall \u2014 two of whom were chance encounters approximately 8,000 miles away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She first connected with <strong>Bryan Miller \u201974<\/strong> (second photo, below) in New York state after reading his article (\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/news.colgate.edu\/magazine\/2021\/11\/22\/the-beard-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"The Beard Award (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Beard Award<\/a>\u201d) in the autumn 2021 issue of Colgate Magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few months later, in Cape Town, South Africa, Kennedy was in line for the cable car up Table Mountain when she spotted <strong>Flora Strollo MA\u201968<\/strong> wearing a Colgate T-shirt (third photo, below). While chatting, Kennedy and Strollo learned that they had both, coincidentally, lived in Newell Apartments as students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, Kennedy and her husband, <strong>Paul \u201972<\/strong>, arrived at Zulu Nyala, a game reserve in South Africa, and met <strong>Jared Howland \u201978<\/strong> (first photo, below).
