What is the difference between Flex Dollars and ’Gate Cash?

Flex dollars are included in some of the meal plans and can be spent like cash at Frank Dining Hall, the Coop, Hieber Café, Donovan’s Pub, and the C-Store, adding flexibility to your dining options. As an additional value, flex dollars are tax-exempt, and unused dollars carry over from fall to spring semesters. However, unused flex dollars expire on the last day of the academic calendar year and do not roll over to the following academic year. You can purchase flex dollars on www.dineoncampus.com/colgate or by visiting the Dining Services Office in Frank Dining Hall.

’Gate Cash is a convenient way to purchase meals at any campus dining location, as well as many locations throughout the Hamilton community, without having a meal plan. Food can be purchased with your ’Gate Card at the Hieber Café, the Coop, Donovan’s Pub, Frank Dining Hall, and the C-Store. ’Gate Cash can also be used for purchases at the Bookstore and mailroom, as well as laundry machines and the library copiers. ’Gate Cash carries over from fall to spring, as well as between academic years. You can purchase Gate Cash through the Colgate student portal. If you have any questions, please contact Student Accounts.

What if I have a food allergy or a special diet?

Special dietary considerations for students with serious health conditions, students following special diets, and students who must refrain from eating certain foods are medical necessities rather than personal choices.

If you have special needs with regard to food or food preparation, Colgate University wants to assist you. Please contact Lynn Waldman, Director of Academic Support and Disability Services, at lwaldman@colgate.edu or via phone at (315) 228-7375. Lynn oversees accommodations for students, and she is also available as a resource for any questions or concerns.

You can also visit the Dietary Restrictions page for additional information and resources.

How do junior and seniors change their meal plan?

Please contact Colgate Dining Services at (315) 228-7670 to add or change your meal plan. You can also visit the Frank Dining Hall office Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to complete a change of meal plan form. The fall semester meal plans will automatically carry over into the spring unless changes are submitted before the deadline. The deadline for the 2019–2020 academic year will be January 30, 2020. Please note: once a Raider Membership (block plan) is purchased, it’s non-refundable.

Any changes in meal plans during the summer can be made by contacting Student Accounts at 315-228-7812.
