Coach Hunt has been recognized as the Patriot League coach of the year.

Dan Hunt guided the Raiders through a tough non-conference schedule to their eighth Patriot League title.

Colgate’s Dan Hunt is one of 15 candidates for STATS FCS Coach of the Year.

The Raiders’ head man earned Patriot League Coach of the Year honors last week after guiding Colgate to a perfect 6-0 conference record. It was the program’s eighth Patriot League championship, and Hunt has been involved in every one.

He served 19 seasons as a Colgate assistant coach; the last 18 under previous head coach Dick Biddle. The Biddle-Hunt combo produced seven titles; Hunt matched his mentor this season by winning his first championship in only his second season as head coach.

Hunt already owns a 9-3 record against Patriot League competition.

A national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers, and other dignitaries are casting their ballots based on the regular season. The winner is being honored at the STATS FCS Awards Banquet and Presentation scheduled for Jan. 8 in Frisco, Texas, on the eve of the FCS championship game.

Colgate, after the first-round win at New Hampshire, continues its push through the NCAA playoffs. The Raiders take on No. 5 James Madison this Saturday in Harrisonburg, Va. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
