Colgate’s experimentation with drones highlighted in Chronicle, Huffington Post

In a Huffington Post story titled “10 Uses of Drones in Higher Education,” marketer Vala Afshar highlights Colgate University’s innovative use of a drone to capture the activity and spirit of the 2013 move-in day, when first-year students arrive on campus.

The university’s efforts to provide options for using drone technology to supplement research and academic study also was cited in this Chronicle of Higher Education report.

Drones can cover large areas, and get to places that aren’t hospitable. For example, drone technology was used by Colgate geology professor Karen Harpp to study volcanoes. The video below is just a small sample of the footage she was able to collect.
