Colgate will hold a service of remembrance and interfaith prayer at noon Thursday in Memorial Chapel to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

Seven alumni were among the 2,977 people killed in the September 11, 2001, attacks. An untold number were, and still are, deeply affected by the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

Colgate political science professor Robert Kraynak will be sharing these remembrances about each of the Colgate victims at the 9/11 service, which is open to everyone in the community:
  • Nestor A. Cintron III ’96 – From the lower East Side of New York City, he was a bright, young intellectual from a tough neighborhood.  He died working as a broker at Cantor Fitzgerald in the World Trade Center (WTC).
  • Scott Coleman ’94 — Died with his brother Keith (not from Colgate). Both were working in the equities division of Cantor Fitzgerald.
  • Edward Porter Felt ’81 – Died aboard United Flight 93 that crashed in western Pennsylvania.  He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate, and a senior systems analyst at BEA Systems in New Jersey.
  • Todd Pelino ’89 – Killed in the WTC at age 34.  He played soccer at Colgate and was the father of two children.  His sister-in-law, Kathleen Pezzuti, also was killed in the trade center, which means Todd’s wife, Megan Pelino ’89, lost her husband and her sister that day.
  • Aaron Jacobs ’96 — Died in the WTC. A member of Delta Upsilon while at Colgate, he worked as an equity trader at Cantor Fitzgerald.
  • David Retik ’90 – He was on American Airlines Flight 11, traveling from Boston, where he worked, to New York City, where he died.  He was married to Susan Zalesne Retik ’90. They had two children together and their third was born in March 2002.
  • Sharon Balkcom ’80 – A bright child raised on the tough streets of Harlem, she came to Colgate and studied political science. She worked as a systems manager in the WTC, where she was killed.
