Photo: Bald eagle makes visit to campus

Back to All Stories

We don’t know if this bald eagle spotted earlier today on campus will be taking up residence, like our swans Adam and Eve, or was just stopping by to fish at Payne Creek.

Regardless, the raptor caught the eye of eagle-eyed Joe Bello, the university’s associate director of facilities and manager of capital projects, who shared this photo.

While the bald eagle is a newcomer to campus, the presence of Adam and Eve is one of Colgate’s favorite traditions. Legend has it that the swans have been with Colgate since 1929, except for a few study group semesters abroad and winters in Florida.

Adam and Eve evidently returned from one of their jaunts in mid-April, when they were again spotted on Taylor Lake after a prolonged absence.
