Back to All Stories

Don’t let the cold keep you at home this week! Here’s some of the events going on around campus.

Recently, Typhoon Haiyan devastated the Philippines, wreaking havoc on the Filipino people. With millions homeless and in need the Colgate community has been chipping in to help the relief effort.

Phi Delta Theta is sponsoring a relief concert  featuring a cappella groups the Colgate Thirteen and the Colgate Resolutions on Monday at 7 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.

Tickets were sold last week for a minimum donation of $5, but donations can also be made at the door, with all proceeds going to the Typhoon Haiyan relief effort. All are encouraged to attend to hear some great music while supporting the relief effort.

The religious community at Colgate also held a candlelight vigil on November 16 in Judd Chapel. Prayers were recited in English, Hebrew, and Arabic, and donations were collected and sent to the Philippines Red Cross and Catholic Relief Services.

On Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., don’t miss Sustainability from Scratch:  Theoretical and Practical Applications of Complexity and Technology in the Developing World, which will be held in101 Ho Science Center. Jose Alfaro from the Center for Sustainable Systems at University of Michigan will speak on sustainability in the developing world in this seminar co-sponsored by the physics and astronomy and environmental studies departments.

Later on Tuesday, the Ho Science Center atrium will be busy with the Environmental Justice Poster Session. The course ENST 232: Environmental Justice explores the terms and ideas of environmental justice by addressing key issues such as environmental racism, distributive justice, grassroots politics, cultural and political representation in environmental struggles, and concepts of environmental identity.

Stop by at 4:15 p.m. to see students present their semester projects while enjoying free food.

Head over to Memorial Chapel on Friday at 7 p.m. to enjoy a night of music and praise, beginning with an organ recital by Glenn Kime. Join the Newman, University Church, and Colgate Christian Fellowship communities for Lessons and Carols. For more information, go here.
