Colgate University and social media

Back to All Stories

Social media is becoming a significant channel for engaging with Colgate University. People are increasingly sharing with Colgate. They are also sharing content about Colgate with their community or communities.

Our goal is to help people connect and tell the amazing stories about Colgate University. Those stories can be posts, tweets, videos, images, instagrams, check-in tips, or even a pin. From your Colgate Day pictures, to stories about the first day here. We love to read and share them.

These tools are more than just platforms for connecting and sharing news about Colgate. They offer a chance to listen to news from Colgate Alums.

Before we talk about strategies, here are some stats at the time of writing:

9,502 likes on Facebook.
5,495 followers on Twitter
1,047 followers on LinkedIn
605 have us in a Google+ circle
290 YouTube Subscribers
392,561 YouTube views
549 links on Delicious
59 followers on Pinterest
52 followers on FourSquare.
2,707 photos on Flickr with 1,476,065 total views

But these are all merely numbers. They don’t talk about how we want to use social media to connect people to the school, to each other, to mayor offers on FourSquare. Over the next few weeks, we will outline the various social media tactical strategies on the various networks. Since tomorrow is Colgate Day, we’ll start with Twitter.

Twitter strategy

The Colgate University Twitter feed is designed to spread news about Colgate to alums. We post about things that are happening at the school as well as things that are happening around the country. The Colgate Twitter feed also wants to know what alums are up to, so we will be reaching out to you to conduct Twitter interviews.

It is also the place where we will have the most Colgate Fun. Tomorrow is the second Colgate Day of a year with three! Any month starting on a Sunday has a Colgate Day.  For details on the plan, click here.

So what do you think? What should we do on the above listed social media accounts? Are you connected to Colgate on any of the above platforms? Why? What would you like to see?

Help us make them even better for you.
