University monitoring weather for possible flooding

Back to All Stories

The university’s Emergency Management Team is closely monitoring the potential for increased flooding caused by heavy rains.

The state has closed a limited section of Route 12B in front of campus, though the Oak Drive and College Street entrances are not affected.

High water at the Newell Apartments on College Street has led to the temporary relocation of several students. University administrators are closely watching the situation there, as well as properties on Broad and Hamilton streets.

Classes and labs will be held as scheduled today, and campus events also will proceed unless canceled by respective event organizers.

Members of the Facilities Department have been assigned to help address any flooding issues and might not be immediately available for regular duties today.

Everyone is urged to avoid areas of high water, and to use caution on area roads as they travel to and from campus.

Forecasters are saying there is the possibility of an additional three-quarters of an inch of rain by the end of the day.

Any necessary updates on this situation will be distributed through the university’s notification system and colgate.edu
