dunne.jpgMaggie Dunne’ 13 was featured in a recent web article about her unflagging commitment to assisting children at the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

The Colgate junior discusses her first visit to the reservation in 2007 and how profoundly affected she was by seeing firsthand the impoverished conditions.

She reacted by organizing a clothing and book drive in her hometown of Scarsdale, N.Y. She received 2,000 books and more than 300 coats for children at the reservation, an incredibly positive response.

Dunne has continued her fundraising efforts through the Lakota Pine Ridge Children’s Enrichment Project Limited (LPRCEP), a nonprofit organization she established.

This past summer, she organized a youth camp at the Pine Ridge Reservation that involved several other Colgate students.
