Alumni working in the environmental field recently returned to campus to share their experiences of how a liberal arts education laid the foundation for their “green” careers.
The Green Careers Forum, part of the 13 Days of Green program, featured five panelists who, along with speaking about their own career paths, offered practical advice and job search tips for current students.
“The alumni aren’t only earning a good living,” said John Pumilio, Colgate’s sustainability coordinator. “They are doing work that is in line with their social and environmental values.”
For Sarah Finn ’10, who wants to combine her interests in law and the environment, the Feb. 10 forum provided the perfect networking opportunity. Finn gained valuable insight from her discussion with Alita Giuda ’02, an environmental attorney.
“Her path is very much the type I want to take, so she’s definitely someone I’ll be talking to more in the future,” said Finn.
Other panelists included Bob Andrews ’95, of GoVo Biofuels; Jessica Prata ’01, sustainability officer at New York-Presbyterian Hospital; Johny Chaklader ’03, president and CEO of The Shapna Project; and Michael Tringali ’04, sales coordinator for The Shapna Project.
