Seniors highlighted through Google map mashup

A Google mashup provides a fun way to see where Colgate’s seniors are headed after graduation.

The online map allows you to click on a pushpin or a name to see what graduates will be doing – whether it’s a job, graduate school program, or fellowship – and where they will be doing it.

“We’re proud of what our seniors have accomplished during their four years here and prouder still of what we know they will accomplish after commencement,” said Colgate President Rebecca S. Chopp. “Whether it’s with the Peace Corps or on Wall Street, our graduates will make a difference in the world.”

The map also includes personal profiles and photos, and eight members of the Class of 2008 are highlighted through videos.

You’ll be able to learn about students such as:

• Serena Klos, Spanish and psychology double major, who will study integrative neuroscience at the University of Chicago

• Will Redmond, religion, will pursue a master’s degree at the Candler School of Theology of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

• Sunday’s commencement ceremony will be webcast

• Schedules, FAQs about commencement

• Max Scherr, English and economics, will be an analyst for Barclays Capital in New York City.

• Erin O’Keefe, a molecular biology major, will be working as a research technician at the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C.

There are many more profiles on the map, and more to come as seniors finalize their plans in the coming weeks. Seniors entered their information through the new Colgate alumni website, which gave them immediate access to the alumni directory, club information, and more.

David Terrazas, web designer/developer for Colgate’s Information Technology Services, took the Google map application and modified it for the senior profiles, with assistance from web developer Glenn Packer.

Ray Nardelli, director of digital media, produced the video profiles with members of the university’s Office of Public Relations and Communications.
