Women’s Lacrosse Loses Regular Season Finale to Cornell 14-8

Hamilton, N.Y.The Colgate women’s lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season with a 14-8 loss at home against Cornell. Katie McVeigh scored two goals, giving her 69 points this season, the fifth best in Colgate laurels. The Big Red used eight consecutive goals over a 20 minute stretch to put the game out of reach.

 

Colgate grabbed a quick lead with an Eden Haladay goal at 27:26. The tally was assisted by Amanda Bradshaw.

 

Cornell came back with three straight goals to snag a two goal lead with 20 minutes to play in the first half.

 

The Raiders returned the favor with three goals of their own from Becky Ortolano, McVeigh and freshman Michelle Callen.

 

The 4-3 lead for the Raiders was short-lived as Cornell scored the next eight goals to put the game away. During the run, Kristen Smith scored four times and Lindsey Moore netted two goals.

 

Colgate finally got on the board in the second half when Haladay scored again to cut the lead to six.

 

The Raiders would draw no closer as the teams traded goals down the stretch with McVeigh scoring the last goal to set the final at 14-8.

 

The Raiders are now 13-6 for the campaign. Colgate is next in action Thursday, May 13, in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Time and opponent will be announced Sunday evening at 6:30 on CSTV.
