16th Ranked Towson Defeats Women’s Lacrosse 17-5

Hamilton, N.Y.The Colgate women’s lacrosse team suffered a bit of a letdown on Sunday in a 17-5 loss the 16th ranked Tigers of Towson University. The Tigers outshot Colgate 36-15 and won 20 of 22 draw controls. The Raiders now prepare to host the Patriot League tournament next weekend.

 

The Tigers came out on fire scoring 10 first half goals, the most the Raiders have allowed this season. Towson went up 2-0 on goals from Amy Middleton and Becky Trumbo.

 

Colgate tied the score at two with goals from Heidi Ross and Katie McVeigh, Amanda Bradshaw assisted on both.

 

The Tigers went on to score six straight goals in a 15 minute stretch to go up 8-2 and take command of the contest. Shannon Witzel and Middleton each scored twice in that stretch.

 

Kelly Winning scored to cut the lead to five, but the Tigers added two more scores including a goal with two seconds left to take a 10-3 lead to the half.

 

The Tigers outscored the Raiders seven to two in the second to take the 17-5 victory.

 

The Raiders are now 11-5 overall and 6-0 in the Patriot League. The Raiders are back in action next weekend when they host Lafayette in the first round of the Patriot League tournament.
