Softball Defeats Yale And Penn At The Rebel Games In Florida

OSCEOLA, FLA. ‘ Senior righthander Elena Isaac pitched a four-hit shutout over Pennsylvania Saturday to break the school record for career shutouts as Colgate (9-2) swept a pair of games, winning 7-6 against Yale and 2-0 against Pennsylvania, at the Rebel Games.

 

Isaac (4-1) has pitched 33 innings this spring for the Raiders without allowing an earned run.  Against Penn, she struck out five and walked none as she picked up her 17th career shutout.

 

Colgate scored the only run needed in the first inning on Natalie Rawson’s RBI double that plate Dorothy Donaldson, who had reached on a two-out single.  The Raiders added an insurance run in the fifth inning.  Pinch hitter Caitlin Martin led off with a walk followed by Mandi Perry’s bunt single sending pinch runner Mui to second.  After Nichole Rawson moved both runners along with a sacrifice bunt, and Kim Olmstead sent Mui home with a sacrifice fly to right field.

 

Perry had two hits for the Raiders including her first extra base hit –  double in the third.

 

In the opener against Yale, Erin Hanna’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning led Colgate over the Bulldogs.

 

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Colgate exploded for five runs to take a 6-3 lead.  Nichole Rawson had a two-run single and Natalie Rawson had a three-run double for the Raiders.

 

Yale came back with a pair of runs in the fifth on Niki Haab’s RBI double and Britni Fabacher’s RBI single.  The Bulldogs tied the contest in the seventh inning on pinch hitter Kate Meserve’s single to left field scoring Kristy Kwiatkowski.

 

In the bottom of the seventh, freshman Danielle Soule double off the left field fence with two outs.  Pinch runner Caitlin Thistle moved to third on a pass ball, and came home with the winning run on Hanna’s single over the second baseman’s head.

 

Kate Howard started for the Raiders on the mound, before Kelsey Nordstrom (3-1) replaced her in the second inning.  Nordstrom worked 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits, three runs, walking one and striking out seven.

 

Nichole Rawson and Hanna had two hits apiece for the Raiders.
