Men’s Track and Field Competes at Two Meets over Spring Break

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – The Colgate men’s track team competed at two meets on its spring break trip to Florida.  The first took place at the USA Track National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. and the second at Florida State.

 

The Raiders set several personal bests and had several strong performances at the first meet.  Senior Mike Saunders won the 800 meter run in a time of 1:56.35, while teammate Ian Hill took second place honors in 1:58.56.

 

Senior Louis DiNuzzo was second in the 1500 meter run with a personal best performance of 4:01.35.  Hill came in fourth in 4:03.42 and was followed closely by John Gillespie with a personal best time of 4:05.28.  Saunders time of 4:06.70 was good enough for sixth place in the event.  Mike Hanlon and Luke Merkel also posted personal bests with times of 4:06.79 and 4:09.76 respectively.

 

Nate Rosenthal took second in the steeplechase with a personal record of 9:58.37.  Sean Curran and Andrew Isabel had strong showings in the 5000 meters.  Curran finished third in 15:45.90 and Isabel finished in a career best time of 15:48.40.

 

Alden Ellis finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 20’04.25” and fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.02 meters.  Andrew Bloom took top honors in the javelin throw with a toss of 55.27 meters.  Ethan Dodge came in fourth in the same event with a mark of 42.11 meters.

 

Alex Fuller-Young came in fourth in the 400 meters in 58.72 seconds and Colgate’s 4×400 meter relay took home the bronze in 3:25.77.  Don Boyajian finished sixth in the 400 meter dash in 51.68 seconds and Dan Ellis set a personal best mark in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.32 seconds.

 

At the Florida State Relays, Saunders won the garnet division of the 800 meter run in 1:53.13.  Ian Hill and Kyle Barrett each had personal record performances in the event with times of 1:54.74 and 1:55.66 respectively.

 

DiNuzzo posted an IC4A qualifying time of 9:14.70 en route to a third place finish in the gold division of the 3000 meter steeplechase.   Bloom threw 57.07 meters in the javelin for a personal-high that placed him second on the Colgate record board.

 

Rosenthal came in eighth in the garnet division 1500 meter run with a personal best time of 4:02.45.  Mike Hanlon set a new first-year record and posted the sixth best mark on the Colgate record board with a time of 15:05.00 in the 5000 meter run.

 

The Raiders are back in action on March 27 as they head to West Point, N.Y. to compete at Army.
