Colgate Men’s Track Places Seventh at the Adidas Boston Indoor Games

BOSTON, MASS. – The Colgate men’s track team traveled to Northeastern University this weekend where they competed against 16 other teams at the Adidas Boston Indoor Games. The team finished seventh with 38 points in a close race defeating UMass by one point.  Williams narrowly edged the Raiders out of sixth place with 39 points on the day.

 

The team set a new freshman distance medley relay record and put three new members on the top-ten indoor record board.  The Raiders also set 13 new personal records at the meet.

      

Corey Stirpe (Halifax, Pa.) posted a personal record of 6.78 seconds in the 50 meter dash.  Teammates Dan Ellis (Pine Valley, N.Y.) and Aaron Brooks (New Hope, Pa.) had personal best performances of 6.86 seconds and 7.00 seconds respectively.   A.J. Bailey (Surry, Va.) rounded out the field with a mark of 7.07 seconds.

 

Will Arnold (Atlanta, Ga.) finished second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.32 and Geoff Bean (Oneonta, N.Y.) finished fourth in 22.44 to post the sixth best time on the Colgate indoor record board. Dan Ellis had his best performance yet in the race with a mark of 23.33 seconds.  Aaron Brooks also posted a personal record with a time of 24.88 seconds.  Bailey also competed for the Raiders finishing in 25.36 seconds.

 

Bean placed fourth in the 400 meter dash with a personal best time of 50.32 seconds. Don Boyajian (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Mitch Sargent (Peachtree City, Ga.) also posted their best personal times with marks of 51.92 and 52.54 seconds respectively.

 

Ethan Dodge (Chatham, N.Y.) ran 1:16.3 in the 500 meter dash to post his best time yet. Mike Saunders finished sixth running 1:56.34 placing him fifth on the Colgate indoor record board.  Kyle Barrett (Troy, N.Y.) and Luke Merkel (Atlanta, Ga.) also competed posting times of 1:59.71 and 2:00.67 respectively. John Gillespie (N. Andover, Mass.) and Greg Smith (LaGrange, Ill.) rounded out the pack for Colgate with marks of 2:01.73 and 2:03.24 respectively.

 

Ian Hill (West Hartford, Conn.) finished third in the 1000 meter run in a personal best time of 2:31.44.  That mark placed him ninth on Colgate indoor record board.  Nate Rosenthal ran 4:33.23 in the mile run, while teammate Travis Brooks (River Forest, Ill.) finished in 4:37.70.

 

Louis DiNuzzo (Loudonville, N.Y.) ran 15:31.16 in the 5000 meter run and Mike Hanlon (Ann Arbor, Mich.) followed close behind with a time of 15:34.23.  Jon Barinholtz (Chicago, Ill.) also took part in the race and crossed the line in 16:15.93.

      

The 4×400 relay team of Arnold, Saunders, Bean, and Drew Moore (Atlanta, Ga.) finished fifth in 3:24.19.  The distance medley relay team composed of freshman Gillespie, Sargent, Boyajian and Scott DeRoo (Elizabethtown, Pa.) finished sixth and set a new freshman record with a time of 10:49.04.   The distance medley team of Brooks, Smith, Barrett and Nate Rosenthal (West Hartford, Conn.) ran 11:12.66 in the race.

      

In the field events, Alden Ellis (New York, N.Y.) posted a leap of 40’10’ in the triple jump. Moore posted a mark of 20’11.25′ in the long jump, while Alden Ellis turned in a personal best jump of 20’9.75′. Lucas Meeker (Healsburg, Calif.) threw for 28’10.5′ in the 35 lb. weight throw. In the shot put, Waldemar Auguscinski (Passaic, N.J.) finished fifth with a throw of 48’8′. Meeker just missed placing by 4′ with a personal record throw of 44’0.5′ and Steve Salavantis (Shavertown, Pa.) threw for a personal best mark of 41’6′.      

 

The Raiders are in action again next weekend as they host the Class of ’32 Invitational in Colgate’s own Sanford Fieldhouse.  The meet is set to begin at
