Blue Leads Men’s Basketball to a 78-60 victory over Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, MASS.-Junior Andrew Zidar knocked down five points out of the blocks for the Raiders who pulled out to a 13-6 lead five minutes into the first half.  The Raiders edge would be short lived thanks to Kevin Rogus who contributed 19 of Harvard’s 34 first half points.  The Crimson knotted the score at 19 with to play in the first on a jumper from David Giovacchini and took a 23-21 lead at       

on Matt Stehle’s first basket of the game. 

 

The Raiders pulled within one on a lay-up by Howard Blue and earned a 28-26 advantage on a three-pointer from freshman John Simon.  Blue capped the 9-0 run with a lay-up to put the Raiders up 30-26.  Harvard answered the Raiders run with a momentum shift as the Crimson put together six uncontested points to secure a 34-33 lead at the half.

 

The Crimson came out firing in the second draining two field goals and increasing its lead to 38-33.  The Raiders fought back to take a 44-41 lead when Kendall Chones drained a free throw on an intentional foul by Luke McCrone and followed with a steal and a lay-up five minutes into the second.  Blue knocked down a basket with left to play to become the 23rd player in school history to reach the 1,000 point scoring mark and give the Raiders a 56-50 advantage.

 

The Raiders sparked a 14-6 run at the seven minute mark to take control of the game and build a solid 70-56 lead with left to play.  Colgate continued to increase its lead over the remaining minutes and would emerge with a 78-60 victory.

 

Blue led the Raiders with 17 points, while grabbing six rebounds.  Zidar notched his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. John Simon added ten points and Mark Linebaugh also scored in double figures contributing 14 points and six assists. 

Rogus led the Crimson with 29 points.

 

The Raiders improve to 4-3 on the season with the win as the Crimson fall to 0-7. Colgate is back in action next Saturday as they host Hobart at on
