ITHACA, N.Y. – The Colgate women’s hockey team defeated Cornell in its ECAC opener on Friday night by the score of 2-0.  Junior forward Cheryl Setchell (Sydney, N.S.) tallied the game-winning goal on the power-play for the Raiders, and Rebecca Lahar (Vienna, Va.) made 22 saves to earn her first shutout of the season.

The two squads battled to a scoreless first period before Colgate took the lead at 15:14 of the second period.  Micki King (Akwesasne, N.Y.) sent a pass to Avery McGlenn (Coaldale, Alb.) who set up Setchell for the power-play goal.  The Raiders power-play went 1-4 and is now 5-39 on the campaign.

Colgate tallied an insurance goal just a minute and 50 seconds into the third period when Allison Paiano (Orleans, Ont.) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season.  The goal went unassisted and set the final at 2-0.

Colgate outshot the Big Red 25-22 and killed both Cornell power-plays.  The Raiders are now unbeaten in three straight contests against Cornell.

The Raiders are now 6-2-1 and 1-0 in the ECAC.  They are next in action at home on Sunday, November 9, when Clarkson comes to Starr Rink for a 2 p.m. face-off.
