Men’s Soccer Plays To a 2-2 Tie at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Colgate men’s soccer team played to its second straight tie on Saturday when the Raiders played even to Holy Cross 2-2.  Jon Cook (Oneonta, N.Y.) and Andrew Rollins (Cheshire, Conn.) scored goals for the Raiders.  With the tie Colgate sets a new mark for ties in a season with five.

Colgate jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Cook headed the ball into the net off a corner from senior Brian McDermott (Willingboro, N.J.).

Rollins gave the Raiders a 2-0 advantage with 25 minutes to play in the game when he scored off a pass from sophomore Sean O’Sullivan.

Holy Cross finally got on the board with an offensive explosion scoring two goals within a span of 27 seconds.  Michael Crean tallied his second goal of the season off a rebound and Arturo Pedroso nodded the score off a pass from Kevin Leonard.

The two teams battled scoreless the rest of way to set the final. 

Will Martin (Excelsior, Minn.) made five saves in net for the Raiders, while his counterpart Richard Whipple also turned aside five Colgate shots.

Colgate now 3-8-5 and 1-3-2 in the Patriot League returns home for its final two matches of the season.  Oneonta State makes the short trek to Hamilton on Tuesday, November 4, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
