Women’s Tennis Finishes Competition at the Patriot League Flighted Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Colgate women’s tennis team competed this weekend at the Patriot League Flighted Championships at Lehigh University.  The team of Rebecca Smalley and Lindsey Suffredini were the only Colgate competitors to make it to the finals of any bracket.  They dropped a 8-6 decision to Anorga and Long of Lehigh.

To get to the finals Smalley and Suffredini defeated Donohue and Murasko-Bank of Lehigh in round one by the score of 8-6.  In round two they defeated Porter and Merselis of Bucknell 8-3, and took down Kelley and Rosman of Lafayette 8-1 to make it to the finals.

Jamie Maldow, Jess Fede and Freshman Rebecca Smalley all made it to the semi-finals in singles competition.  Maldow defeated Rheanna Gaskin of Bucknell 6-1, 6-2 in round one.  She then beat Kristen Nowicki of Lehigh 1-6, 6-3, 10-8, before falling to Marrissa Limsiaco of Army in the finals.

Fede downed Sam Berthod of Bucknell is the first round, then took care of Gwen Dwyer of Lehigh by the scores of 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.  Fede lost in the semi’s to Army’s Ali del Moral, 6-2, 6-4.

Smalley defeated Rebecca Kral 6-1, 6-1, then took care of Starr Foster of Lehigh in round two, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.  Lyndsey Nott of Army downed Smalley in the semi’s in straight set fashion.

The Colgate women’s tennis team is next in action at Virginia Tech University for the Omni Regional Tournament on October 24-28.
