Field Hockey Drops 2-0 Non-Conference Decision to Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn.Julie Messenger scored two second half goals to lead the Sacred Heart field hockey team to a 2-0 non-conference win over Colgate Friday morning at Campus Field.

With the loss, the Raiders fall to 5-5 on the season while the Pioneers improve to 6-8.

After a scoreless first half, Messenger got the Pioneers on the board at 44:52 when she moved through the Colgate defense and took a shot from five yards out.

She then gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead with just three minutes remaining in the game. Becky Ford assisted on the goal.

Sacred Heart outshot the Raiders by a 22-9 margin with 15 shots in the second half. The Pioneers also held a slim advantage on penalty corners 7-6.

Colgate freshman goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco (Hudson, Ohio) finished with 12 saves while Robyn Breer made three stops for Sacred Heart.

The Raiders host Albany on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m.
