Cornell Volleyball Picks Up Decisive Victory over Colgate

Hamilton, NY — The Cornell volleyball team picked up a decisive three-game victory over Colgate on Tuesday evening.  Game scores were 19-30, 21-30, and 20-30.  Cornell came out firing in the first game amassing 19 kills and committing only four errors and would continue to control play for the duration of the match.

The Raiders were led by Allie Nichols (Sacramento, Calif.) with nine kills.  Setter Alana Elsner (Wheaton, Ill.) racked up 27 assists and a team-high eight digs in the match.  Freshman Marybeth Maziarz (Wilbraham, Mass.)  roofed three Big Red attacks, while teammate Laurel Oliver (Watertown, N.Y. stopped two.

Elizabeth Bishop paced Cornell with 14 kills and no errors, hitting for a .538 percentage.  Debbie Quibell contributed 12 kills and 11 digs to the effort.  Heather Young racked up six blocks, while Bishop and Jamie Lugo added five apiece.

Cornell improves to 16-3 overall and the Raiders fall to 5-19 on the season.  Colgate heads to Pennsylvania for its last Patriot League weekend on the road.  The Raiders will face Lehigh on Thursday at 7 p.m. before heading to Lafayette for a Saturday match set to begin at 5 p.m.
