Albany Rallies With Two Straight Goals as Field Hockey Falls To The Great Danes, 4-3

HAMILTON, N.Y.Juniors Nancy Miller (Penfield, N.Y.) and Ashley Schneider (Linfield, Pa.) each tallied a goal and an assist as the Colgate field hockey team dropped a 4-3 non-conference decision to Albany Wednesday night at Tyler’s Field.

Colgate (5-6, 2-2 Patriot League) led 3-2 until the 62nd minute when the Great Danes tied it up 3-3 on a goal by Tina Bryson. The game winner came three minutes later as Kristina Maze put Albany up for good 4-3.

The Raiders got on the board at 21:26 when Miller scored her first goal of the season on a centering pass from Schneider. Albany answered with a goal five minutes later when Alexis Johnson put in a Lisa Burline rebound.

Colgate took a 2-1 lead into halftime as junior Kath Shelley (Grand Rapids, Ohio) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season from Miller at 31:23.

In the second half, Albany tied the game 2-2 at 49:45 on Bryson’s first goal of the game. The Raiders took a 3-2 lead in the 59th minute when Schneider found the back of the cage after a scramble in front of the net.

Colgate goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco (Hudson, Ohio) finished with 13 saves while Albany’s Marisa Maze had seven. 

The Raiders host defending league champion Lafayette on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Tyler’s Field.
