Harvard and Boston College Defeat Colgate at the New England Challenge

Boston, Mass. – The Colgate volleyball team suffered losses to Boston College and Harvard in the final day of competition at the New England Challenge.

Colgate faced Boston College in its first match of the day on Saturday.  Marybeth Maziarz (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Laurel Oliver (Watertown, N.Y) were the Raiders leading hitters with five kills apiece and an identical .133 hitting percentage.  Meghaan Walsh (Walnut Creek, Calif.) led the defense with five kills.  Setter Alana Elsner (Wheaton, Ill.) was credited with 22 assists and two service aces in the match.

Katie and Allison Andersen paced the Eagles with nine kills apiece.  Katie Andersen also tallied ten digs and three service aces in the match.  Setter Verena Rost notched 37 assists.  Game scores were 21-30, 15-30, 22-30.

The Raiders suffered their second loss of the day to Harvard in three straight games.  Game scores were 25-30, 17-30, and 19-30.  Elsner assisted on 21 kills.  Caity Whiteaker posted a team high nine kills, while Freshman Marybeth Maziarz put down a personal best eight kills and three block assists while hitting for a .421 percentage. 

Nilly Schweitzer led the Crimson offensive attack with 17 kills and a .419 hitting percentage.  Mariah Pospisil and Katie Turley-Molony followed with ten kills apiece.  Setter Kim Gould put 42 assists in the books.

The Raiders are back in action next Friday at 5 p.m. against LaSalle as they host the Colgate Invitational on Cotterell Court.
