WORCESTER, Mass.— Freshman Tara Welch scored two goals to propel the Holy Cross field hockey team to a 2-1 Patriot League win over Colgate Sunday afternoon.

The Raiders (3-4, 2-2 PL) scored the game’s first goal at 18:53 of the first half as junior Ashley Schneider (Linfield, Pa.) snuck one past Holy Cross goalkeeper Jennifer Corsilli. It was Schneider’s first goal of the season.

The Crusaders (7-2. 2-0 PL) tied the game nine minutes later when a shot by sophomore Jenna Cook ricocheted off the cage and Welch tipped in the rebound.

Welch scored the game-winning goal with four minutes left in the game off of a penalty corner. Jillian LeClair assisted on the goal.

The Raiders had a chance to take the lead, but Holy Cross freshman Suzanne Whelan made a diving defensive save.

Colgate freshman goalkeeper Jacque DeMarco (Hudson, Ohio) finished with eight saves and Corsilli made five stops.

Holy Cross outshot the Raiders 18-14 and held the advantage on penalty corners 10-8.
