Colgate Hosts One of ’12 Most Effective Preachers in English-Speaking World’ Dean of Duke University Chapel to Speak on Oct. 1

Hamilton, NY — William H. Willimon, dean of the Duke University Chapel and professor of Christian ministry, will speak on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 8 p.m., in the Student Union Building Hall of Presidents on Colgate University’s campus. His presentation will be the fifth in the ‘For God and Truth’ series jointly sponsored by Colgate University and the First Baptist Church of Hamilton. The event is free and open to the public.

Selected in a Baylor University survey as one of the ‘Twelve Most Effective Preachers in the English-Speaking World,’ Willimon teaches courses in preaching and worship in addition to his duties as dean of Duke University Chapel. Before coming to Duke, he served as pastor in United Methodist churches in Georgia and South Carolina. He preaches each Sunday in the Duke Chapel and directs the program of campus ministry there.

Willimon, who holds an honorary degree from Colgate as well as a masters degree in divinity from Yale University, is the author of 50 books, and more than a million copies of his books have been sold. His articles have appeared in many publications including The Christian Ministry, Quarterly Review, Liturgy, Worship, and Christianity Today. His ‘Pulpit Resource’ is used each week by more than 8,000 pastors in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Willimon has given lectures and taught courses at many pastors’ schools and at colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

The ‘For God and Truth’ lecture series was originally envisioned and partially funded by Colgate alumnus Fred Rhodes in honor of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton’s role in founding the university. For additional information please call 315-228-7682.
