Senior Linebacker Tem Lukabu Named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year

Hamilton, NY — The Colgate University football team has been picked to finish second in the 2003 Patriot League standings in a poll of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The Raiders, who finished 9-3 overall last season and tied for the Patriot League championship with a 6-1 mark, had four first-place votes while finishing behind Fordham University in the preseason poll.

Lehigh came in third, followed by Lafayette, Towson, Holy Cross, Georgetown and Bucknell.

Senior linebacker Tem Lukabu, the 2002 Patriot League co-Defensive Player of the Year, was tabbed as the 2003 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.  He led Colgate in tackling last fall with 112, and was among the top five in the league in solo tackles (53) and assisted hits (59).  He also contributed six tackles for losses of 16 yards, including a six-yard sack, broke up six passes and intercepted three others, which tied for fourth in the league.
