Hamilton, NY — Colgate University head softball coach Vickie Sax has announced that four high school seniors have decided to attend the University in the fall of 2003 and play for the Patriot League champions.
They are Kelsey Nordstrom (Salina South H.S./Salina, KS), Kirstie Kenton (Royal H.S./Simi Valley, CA), Danielle Soule (Glendale H.S./Glendale, CA), and Caitlin Martin (Lakeridge H.S./Lake Oswego, OR).
‘These four players will help us continue the momentum of this past spring,’ said Sax, who guided the Raiders to the Patriot League title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. ‘Each player was the ability to step in and contribute right from the first pitch.’
Kelsey Nordstrom, Pitcher, 5-6, Salina South H.S./Salina, KS.
Nordstrom is a four-year letterwinner from Salina South High School in Salina, Kansas ‘ she was 44-4 in her scholastic career and this spring guided her high school team to the Kansas Class 5A state champion ‘ her high school team was Class 5A runnerup in 2000 and 2002 ‘ named I-70 league four straight seasons ‘ first team all-Kansas in junior and senior seasons ‘ first team all-classes in 2002 and second team in 2003 ‘ Class 5A Pitcher of the Year in 2002 ‘ was team’s MVP for three straight seasons and Salina’s Offensive Player of the Year three times ‘ during her scholastic career, she pitched in 338.2 innings while striking out 440 and posting a 0.41 earned run average ‘ pitched six no-hitters and 11 one-hitters ‘ also lettered in volleyball, basketball and cross country ‘ played her summer ball with the U-18 KC Peppers ‘ pitched in the U-18 Gold Nationals in Tulsa in 2002.
Kirstie Kenton, Pitcher, 5-6, Royal H.S./Simi Valley, CA
Kenton is a three-year letterwinner from Royal High School in Simi Valley, California ‘ she comes from the strongest high school league in the country according to the Los Angeles Times and Student Sports Magazine ‘ was second team all-Marmonte League ‘ served as co-captain ‘ she had a 31-9 pitching record with a 0.64 earned run average during her scholastic career ‘ in addition she struckout 228 batters in 257 innings ‘ had six no-hitters and pitched the only perfect game in school history ‘ set the school record for wins in a season with 14 in 2002 and strikeouts in a season with 98 in 2002 ‘ at the plate she posted a career .282 batting average.
Danielle Soule, Infielder, 5-10, Glendale H.S./Glendale, CA
Soule is a four-year letterwinner from Glendale High School in Glendale, California ‘ in her senior season she batted .549 with six doubles, three triples and one home run ‘ she also drove in 16 runs and scored 20 ‘ was first team all-Pacific League in her senior and sophomore seasons and second team as a junior ‘ invited to play in the 17th annual Daily News All-Star Game ‘ named team’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2003 and 2001, and most inspirational player in 2001 and 2002 ‘ played her summer ball with the Southern California Stealth ‘ was a member of the Glendale Senior Softball 15- and 16-year-old All-Stars that captured a World Series title in 2001 and the Glendale Senior Softball 15- and 16-year-old All-Star team that won the Western Regional and advanced to the Senior Softball World Series in 2002.
Caitlin Martin, Pitcher, 5-8, Lakeridge H.S./Lake Oswego, OR
Martin is a four-year letterwinner from Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon ‘ was first team all-Three Rivers League in 2002 and second team all-league in 2003 ‘ in her senior season she had a 0.60 earned run average to go along with 17 complete games and three shutouts ‘ had three no-hitters during her scholastic career ‘ played for the Red Heat 14-and-under ASA softball team that was regional champions in 2001 and participated at the AFA Nationals where they finished second.
