Hamilton, NY — Senior Peter Watts (Wayland, Mass.) and junior Jeff Vander Muelen (Liverpool, N.Y.) tallied three points apiece as the Colgate men’s lacrosse team fell in a non-conference match-up to Dartmouth, 10-7 in the Raiders’ home opener on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Colgate falls to 1-1 on the season while Dartmouth opens its year 1-0.

Dartmouth began the game with a score by Scott Roslyn at the 12:34 mark before Colgate got back-to-back goals by Jason Vasas (Fairport, N.Y.), assisted by Watts and Scott Herbst (Short Hills, N.J.), assisted by Vander Muelen.

The Big Green’s Brandon Wright evened the score at two apiece with the first goal of the second period before Watts and Vander Muelen scored one goal each to put Colgate up 4-2 with 6:59 left before half time.

The Raiders and Dartmouth would trade goals for the remainder of the second, with Colgate’s points coming on an unassisted goal by junior Greg Berube (Plaistow, N.H.) and Herbst, assisted by Watts. The Raiders held the slight 6-4 advantage at the intermission.

Vander Muelen started the third period with Colgate’s final goal of the day, putting the Raiders up 7-4 with 11:28 left in the period.

Dartmouth would score the final six goals of the game to take the 10-7 victory with the game-winning goal coming from the stick of Casey Burlage, assisted by Jamie Coffin. 

The Raiders are back in action on Tuesday, March 4 at Cornell. Face off is set for 4:00 p.m.
