CANBERRA, Australia Colgate’s Jenny Molina and her Mexican teammates nearly pulled off an upset, but a Swedish goal in injury time salvaged a 1-1 tie at the Australia Cup women’s soccer tourney.
Victoria Svensson scored on a breakaway, beating goalkeeper Molina to equalize in the tourney’s first match for both teams. Mexico faces host Australia on Wednesday, then plays South Korea Saturday.
Molina, 21, was named the top goalkeeper at last year’s Gold Cup, the championship of the North and Central America and the Caribbean region.
