Long Island Snaps Colgate’s Seven-Game Home Court Win Streak

Hamilton, NY — Antawn Dobie scored a game-high 27 points and added six assists to lead Long Island University to a 78-70 win over Colgate Sunday at Cotterell Court. 

The Blackbirds (1-4) snapped Colgate’s seven-game home court winning streak and handed the Raiders (3-4) their first home loss of the season in four games.

Other Long Island players in double figures were Raymond Edwards with 15 points, JaJa Bey with 12 points and Derek Bell with 10.  Bell finished with a double-double as he hauled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Howard Blue led Colgate with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Tim Sullivan added 15 points and Andrew Zidar 10.

Long Island took an early 22-9 lead before Colgate battled back to tie the score 29-29 on Zidar’s layup with 4:59 remaining in the first half.  The Raiders would go up by three points, 36-33, before the score was tied at intermission, 38-38.

In the second half, Colgate enjoyed a seven-point advantage, 60-53, with 11:49 remaining.  The Raiders continued to lead 62-60 with 10:18 to go before going scoreless over the next 6:52 allowing Long Island to take a 70-62 lead and never look back.  Dobie had four points to start the run of 10-point run by the Blackbirds.

Long Island out-rebounded Colgate, 40-33.  Sullivan and Zidar each had six rebounds for the Raiders.

GAME NOTES:  The last four games in the Colgate-Long Island series has seen the visiting team win … Colgate shot only 42 percent from the free throw line and missed several key one-and-one free throw situations down the stretch … Dave Hardy had six assists for the Raiders.
